Ridge vents are a necessary portion of your roof to allow damp and warm air to escape from the attic. It is installed at the peak of the roof using a raised formed piece that later gets covered with shingles.
We removed this homeowner's roof (due to a hail storm). We worked with the insurance company to help get this homeowner's roof replaced. This Oak Forest homeowner decided to upgrade their shingles to the CertainTeed Presidentail Shingles. WOW! What a difference.
Mansard Roof design has been in existence since the 16th Century. It was predominantly French designed homes, but made its way to the US in the late 1800's. It was not used as often in traditional homes, but many high rises residential buildings in the late 60's and 70's were built with them. We now see Mansard roofs most times with a flat or sloped roof at the top. In heavy snow and rain regions of the US, having a sloped or flat roof atop a Mansard is preferred for durability.
Malarkey® manufactures a wide variety of shingle styles, but most of their styles use their industry leading NEX® Polymer Modified Asphalt Technology (PMA). For over a century most shingles have been made using oxidation, a process based on using oxygen and extreme heat to harden the asphalt and make it more difficult to melt. However, this process also makes the shingles less pliable which can make them more brittle and lead to premature cracking. Nex® Polymer Modified Asphalt Technology (PMA) doesn't use this process. Instead polymers (molecular chains making up rubber and plastic) are combined with high-grade asphalt to create a unique combination that provides exceptional weather resistance and impact resistance.
These shingles are also far more environmentally friendly. Many of the polymers used are actually upcycled from recycled plastics like used tires and bottles. This makes them far more sustainable, but it's not the only green feature. Many of these shingles also use 3M™ Smog-Reducing Granules. These granules provide each roof with roughly the same smog-fighting potential as 2 or more trees. Their shingles also come in a variety of different colors and styles.
